I build systems that scale, and teams that ship.

I'm Marc Al Mouallem, a principal software engineer and product leader. For 12+ years I've designed distributed systems used by hundreds of thousands of people. I help teams turn their product pipeline, from discovery to development, into a faster, partly automated process.

Engineer by training, product leader by practice.

I design and deliver high-scale distributed systems: microservice architectures, event-driven platforms and payment systems. I've done this in fintech, hospitality and mental health.

Today I lead product and technical architecture at Sovra, a self-custodial DeFi finance platform with blockchain integrations. I run the weekly sprint planning and reviews, and I set the technical direction across mobile, backend and infrastructure.

The best results come when engineering and product work as one team. I help teams perform better by automating repetitive work in their product pipeline and coaching people to take on wider roles.

How I can help

01

Architecture & Scale

Blueprints for microservices, event-driven systems and payment systems that stay reliable under heavy load. Kafka, gRPC, AWS and Kubernetes, designed for high availability and smooth releases.

02

Product Leadership

Hands-on product leadership: setting priorities, running weekly sprint planning and reviews, and keeping roadmap, architecture and delivery aligned so the team ships what matters.

03

Product Pipeline Automation

I map how ideas move from discovery to development and automate the steps that should be automated: research synthesis, specs, tickets, testing and release. Less busywork and fewer handoffs, so the team spends its time deciding and building.

04

Team Performance & Coaching

Code reviews, engineering best practices and one-to-one coaching that help engineers and PMs grow beyond their job titles. They learn to own more of the pipeline and to work alongside automation instead of competing with it.

From discovery to development, automated where it counts.

  1. Discover

Gather user signals, research and data, and let tooling sort and summarize it so the team can focus on understanding the problem.

  2. Define

Turn insights into clear specs, acceptance criteria and backlog items using repeatable templates and automated handoffs.

  3. Build

Clean architecture, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and automated quality checks, so the team can move fast without breaking things.

  4. Grow

Coach each person to take on a wider role across the pipeline. A strong team improves the process long after an engagement ends.

Where I've worked

  1. Aug 2025 — Present

    Engineering Manager

    Sovra

Leads product and technical architecture for a self-custodial consumer finance app with built-in blockchain and DeFi integrations. Runs the weekly sprint planning and reviews, and designs backend systems that keep financial transactions reliable at scale.

  2. Apr 2017 — Present

    Technical Lead

    RAMS Services

Principal engineer on several high-scale client systems running at the same time, in fintech, hospitality and mental health. Designed Kafka-based microservice architectures on AWS, and mentored teams through code reviews and engineering best practices.

  3. Apr 2016 — Jan 2017

    Backend Engineer

    Tlobfit

Built the backend infrastructure from scratch with Node.js, React and MongoDB, and designed APIs and database schemas that let a startup add features quickly.

  4. Oct 2013 — Sep 2014

    Software Engineer

    alice.

Went from junior to lead engineer on an investment platform with a large codebase, working with Lisp (Hunchentoot), JavaScript and the LEMP stack.

  5. 2006 — 2012

    B.Eng. Computer Communications

Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK)

Focused on artificial intelligence and software engineering, and won the university's final-year project (FYP) award. Also certified in Pattern Discovery in Data Mining (Coursera).
